Virtualization host VMware doesn’t have the best reputation for security, but Acronis Cyber Protect makes it easy to secure your virtual machines. We’ll show you how to add an Esxi server on top of a fully-secured Windows 10 workstation for extra protection against nefarious cybercriminals.
Acronis Cyber Protect is a virtualization host for VMware ESXi. It allows users to create and manage multiple VMs on their computer. The “acronis virtual host” creates a new VM that has the Acronis software installed.
VMware Esxi is a virtualization environment that is widely used in companies due to its high scalability and ease of setup for virtualizing Windows and Linux servers. If you have an Acronis Virtual Host license, you can back up all the virtual machines in this Esxi Host using Acronis Cyber Protect, regardless of how many virtual machines are in operation in the host.
Scenario: In a Vmware Esxi system, Server01, Server02, and UbuntuServer are virtualized. Acronis Management Server is installed on Server01. If you use Acronis’ Virtual Host licensing, configure Add Virtual Host Vmware Esxi on Acronis Management Server to add Server02 and UbuntuServer to the Device list backup.
The purpose of this post is to demonstrate how to setup add virtual host so that you may backup all virtual machines on the host.
Before starting the guide, go to https://techbast.com/2021/10/acronis-cyber-protect-15-how-to-download-and-install-acronis-cyber-protect-backup-software.html to learn how to install Acronis Management Server.
Add the VMware Esxi Virtual Machine as the first step.
To add a device, go to the Acronis Cyber Protect admin page and choose Device > Add.
Select Vmware Esxi from the Virtualization Hosts section at the bottom of the page.
Select Deploy as a…vCenter.
Step 2: Fill up the VMware Esxi information.
Specify a vCenter or a standalone Esxi in the Specify a vCenter or a standalone Esxi section:
Enter the Wmware Esxi host IP address, as well as the user name and password.
Select the IP address of Server01, where Acronis Management Server is installed, in the Select the management….the server area.
Click the Deploy button.
The process of adding hosts is now underway.
The procedure for adding a host has been completed.
Server02 and UbuntuServer have been added to the Device list, as can be seen in the All Device section.
Note: If you don’t have a VMware or Hyper-V environment, you may still buy Acronis licenses for each physical server individually.
To add each physical server to the Device List Backup, follow the steps below. You may also follow the same procedures as adding a virtual host:
Go to Device > Add > Windows Servers.
Complete the following fields:
- Choose a deployment agent: The name of the server that contains Acronis Management Server. In this case, the server is named Win-B12UL2S9SIV.
- Enter the IP address, username, and password for the physical server you’d want to back up (Not the IP of Acronis Management Server).
Select the IP of the server installed as Acronis Management Server by scrolling down to the “Select the management…the server” section. Then choose Install.
The process of adding a server is now underway.
The procedure of adding a server is now complete.
The device list has been updated to include the server.
